Software built
in the edit bay

Mplode Media builds software, automation and complete workflows for broadcast television, from ingest and sync to transcripts and paper edits. Every tool is built by a working editor and tested on real shoot days. We also make apps for grassroots sport.

Mplode Assist

A suite of tools with one aim: get rushes from the camera card to an editor's timeline faster, with nothing lost along the way.

Sync & Group

Turns a day of Avid rushes into synced, grouped and organised material ready to cut. Drop in your Avid MXF and camera bins and get back multicam groups and synced rushes, in bins laid out the way an edit team expects.

  • Syncs audio cards and multiple cameras
  • Builds multicam groups, one angle per camera
  • Creates bins for multicam groups, whole-day rushes and interviews, each kept separate

Everything runs on your own machine. Your media stays on your drives and is never uploaded.

Welcome to Alexandria

She'll be your librarian.

Alexandria keeps track of every card, every copy and every word of a production. She watches your drives, builds a searchable library of the footage, and can tell you exactly where any clip lives.

  • Knows where every card lives, Raws and Backup, and when each drive last saw it. If a card goes missing or moves, she notices
  • Warns when Raws and Backup are sitting on the same drive
  • Makes a light working copy of every clip, with source timecode and your property-of warning burnt in, plus stills and audio
  • Transcribes every clip, interviews first
  • Search by words, or by clip, card, tape or file name. Hits play with the words reading along
  • Spare Macs and PCs share the heavy work at low priority, and step back while ingest is busy

Mplode Ingest

The ingest step. When camera cards arrive, Mplode Ingest copies them and processes the footage into Avid media, with bins built and everything organised before anyone starts syncing.

  • Copies each card and processes it to Avid media
  • Builds bins and organises media by card
  • Flags off-speed clips in the Type column so they're never missed
  • Hands straight on to Sync & Group

Mplode Paperedit

Build the story on paper, then let the software build the timeline. Editors and producers mark up transcripts and Paperedit turns those selections into a sequence for Avid.

  • Work from transcripts instead of scrubbing through rushes
  • Selections export as an AAF with source timecode, ready to import into Avid
Mplode Scribe

Bilingual transcription, English and te reo Māori

Scribe was built with our team for Aotearoa productions, where interviews move between English and te reo Māori and general transcription tools fall short on the reo.

Mplode Scribe

Transcribes interviews in English and te reo Māori, including speakers who move between the two, and produces subtitle files ready for the edit and for delivery.

  • Transcription in both English and te reo Māori
  • Subtitle files from every transcript
TranslateAdd-on service

Te reo Māori into English, shown alongside the original, with English subtitles. Translation runs one way only, from reo into English, to protect the reo.

Scribe PaperED

Full plan

The complete Scribe package. Everything in Scribe, with translation hours included and paper editing built in. Producers work from English and te reo Māori transcripts with English translations of the reo alongside, so reo speakers and non-speakers can build the story together.

  • Transcription in English and te reo Māori
  • Translate hours included, reo into English
  • Paper edit from the transcripts and translations
Workflows

We build workflows, not just tools

From card arrival to master delivery.

We help production companies put a working post system in place. We look at how your team works now, map the path from the moment cards arrive to the delivered master, and fix the places where things slow down or slip through. The answer isn't always new software.

Our own tools

Where the Mplode tools fit, we set them up and train your team on them.

Third-party software

Often the right tool already exists. We choose it, configure it and connect it to the rest of your process.

Simple systems

Sometimes the fix is a shared database the team ticks off, a clear folder structure or an agreed naming convention.

01 · ARRIVAL

Cards arrive

Cards are logged, copied, checked and processed into edit-ready media, so nothing leaves the building with only one copy.

02 · PREP

Prep for the edit

Sync, grouping, bins and transcripts are done the same way every day, whoever is on shift.

03 · EDIT

The edit

Editors, producers and assistants know where everything lives and what state each episode is in.

04 · FINISH

Finishing

Turnovers to online, grade and sound go out complete, with the paperwork the next facility needs.

05 · DELIVERY

Master delivery

Masters, captions and deliverables are checked against the broadcaster's specs and signed off before they leave.

Workflow example

Cards to release, mapped

A recent workflow map for a production company delivering episodes to broadcast, web and socials. We mapped every step from the cards arriving to life after release, who does it and which tools they use, then marked each one up.

Community projects

Built for the sideline too

Not everything we make is for television. Community projects are tools for the volunteers who keep local sport running.

Gameday

Gameday management for grassroots football. One app takes a volunteer coach through the whole week: who can make it, picking the team, running the match from the sideline and sharing the results with players and parents.

Ask the team

Send a game or training to the squad. Parents answer I'm in, Need a ride or Can't make it. Silence shows as no reply, and the coach can answer for anyone who texts instead.

THU–FRI · LINEUP

Pick the side

Choose a formation, load last week's team and change the two who are away. Tap a player, tap a position. No dragging, so it works one-thumbed in gloves.

FRIDAY · SEND

Publish the team sheet

The sheet goes to the player app, with a PDF for families who only use email. Juniors' contacts default to a parent or guardian.

SATURDAY · MATCHDAY

Run the game

Score, clock and the next planned sub on one screen, with six tiles to log goals, saves, fouls and cards. The clock keeps time even if the phone locks.

AFTER · SUMMARY

Share the season

Every player's minutes, goals and assists flow into their own season page. Players see their position, the bench and their totals, never anyone's contact details.

Discourage, don't block

Nine players turn up? The app flags it and lets you carry on. That's a real Saturday, not a mistake.

Nothing destructive

Players are archived, not deleted, and a second yellow asks before it counts.

One app, two roles

Coaches and families use the same app and see what's right for them.

What we're building next: automated QC for finished masters, and Mplode Assist for teams cutting in DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Mplode QC

In development · v0.1

Automated file-based QC for finished video and audio. Render into a watch folder and every file is checked against a delivery spec, then moved to Passed or Faulted with a PASS / FAIL PDF report.

  • Reports show spec against measured, errors with timecode in and out, a loudness graph, channel table and thumbnails
  • QC markers drop straight onto the DaVinci Resolve timeline, red for fails and yellow for warnings
  • Any number of watch folders, each with its own spec profile
  • Works on shared storage from Mac and Windows, and logs every result

Mplode Resolve Assist

In development

The DaVinci Resolve edition of Sync & Group, sharing the same core. Resolve sets up as much of the sync map as it can, and Resolve Assist picks up the clips Resolve couldn't match.

  • New features land in both editions
  • Built for teams who ingest through Resolve before cutting in Avid

Premiere Pro editions

In development

The Mplode Assist suite rebuilt as standalone Premiere Pro systems, with the same bin setup, media organisation, sync and multicam grouping.

  • Same workflow for teams cutting in Adobe
About

Built by an editor, for editors

Mplode Media is run by James Wiremu Baysting, who has worked in New Zealand broadcast post-production since 2000 across Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve and Adobe.

The software grew out of years of running post departments and watching assistants lose whole days to sync and bin housekeeping. Every tool solves a problem from a real production, and none ships until it has held up on a real shoot day.

We also design complete workflows and custom automation for production companies. If your team feels like they're losing time repeating themselves, we can help.

Real-world tested

Tools are proven on live shoot days before anyone else relies on them.

Your media stays put

Processing happens on your own drives. Nothing gets uploaded.

Mac and PC

Everything installable runs on both, because edit suites use both.
